Te Roopu Waiora Trust is a unique kaupapa Maori Organisation founded and governed by whanau with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities. Since it began in 2001, Waiora has evolved and expanded its role of providing disability information and advice to also assisting whanau access Maori communities, providers, agencies and government. Large projects are jointly guided and evaluated by our partners Tamaki Ngati Kapo Inc and Mana Tangata Turi

Initiatives… • Waiora works through strong partnerships and good community support to deliver services and unique, innovative projects. • Supporting Te Kohanga Reo movement establish the first Kohanga Reo in Aotearoa where tamariki and their whanau with disabilities can participate with full supports and health services available • With Auckland Disability Law providing professional legal advice for the disabled community of Tamaki Makaurau from Te Roopu Waiora Trust • Working with our partners Tamaki Ngati Kapo Inc and Mana Tangata Turi to develop a Kaitiaki role and tools whanau can use to evaluate how services respond to their aspirations and needs • With Counties Manukau District Health Board; The first Maori disability plan developed and monitored by whanau representatives, mana whenua and DHB management • With our partners, Kaiarahi Tapiri Ltd and Associates: Using platforms of technology to improve whanau access to health and wellbeing services • Supporting whanau research the development of the first marae in Aotearoa entirely designed by whanau with disabilities

Weekly NZ Sign Language and Maori Deaf Awareness workshop alongside Te Reo Maori sessions are held here at Te Roopu Waiora Trust. Informing whanau… Tailor made information regarding disability services and supports that might meet your needs. Either contact us with your enquiries and we will search it out for you or come to one of our monthly information hui. We have a range of information packs and contacts with disability services to assist whanau make informed decisions. Providers and agencies are also welcome to arrange presentations at whanau information hui or join us for monthly community hui. Project Karere… Mahi hangarau ki te whakaora whanau haua Technology to improve whanau access Project Karere was formed to help improve access to health services for whanau with disabilities using technology. Producing digital audio and visual panui to increase the methods of communication and range of information available to whanau haua. This includes: • Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) linking to Trilingual NZSL interpreters by video conferencing to enable access by whanau haua to hui and appointments. • A Video Panui providing information of interest to whanau haua posted to our web site or available for download by podcast and live streaming. • A web radio service broadcasting the audio version of the same information available in the video panui and accessed by the same methods.
